Description | Ohio regulators have voted to end controversial subsidies for two coal-fired power plants operated by the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC), including the Kyger Creek plant in Clifton, Ohio, and the Clifty Creek plant in Madison, Indiana. These subsidies were enacted via the scandal-ridden House Bill 6 energy law and have been paid by Ohio regulated utility customers for nearly six years. The subsidies will be reduced to zero as of August 14, 2025, following a sweeping energy reform bill signed by Governor Mike DeWine in May 2025. |
