OXEN is a contemporary series, blending elements of a traditional crime mystery and a political thriller. The series takes Nordic Noir as its framework, but gives the genre a new spin in a unique setting. Gone is the jaded investigator and the lifelessly grey urban environment. Our protagonist is a scarred soul, a war veteran marked by the trauma of war. Despite embarking on a life-threatening mission, he finds utter peace in nature, a setting that will play a major part in anchoring the narrative and setting the mood. Emphasis will be placed on the scenic images as a contrast to the dark and twisted story, giving OXEN a distinctive look that sets it apart from the genre. The series centres on Niels Oxen, the most highly decorated soldier in Danish history, and a veteran of seven international missions. When he is abandoned by his superior officer to watch his best friend die on the battlefield in Afghanistan, Oxen tries to hold the man accountable – but comes up short against a corrupt system. Now driven by a strong sense of justice, Oxen is determined to avenge his fallen comrade. This puts him on a collision course with a powerful shadow government called Danehof, a secret cabal with a history dating back to the Middle Ages and influence in the highest offices of government. OXEN is a TV series of 6 x 45 min. per season, produced for TV 2 Denmark, with great international appeal. The series is written by the triple International Emmy winners Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe, and is produced for SF Studios by Senia Dremstrup. The TV series is based on Jens Henrik Jensen’s bestselling series of novels, which has been published in many countries and has figured at the top of Der Spiegel’s bestseller list in Germany. The series is planned for wide European distribution.
