All over Europe, once-pristine green havens are now contaminated by PFAS, those chemical substances designed by the industry to make our daily lives easier. Yet it took nearly sixty years of research to fully grasp just how harmful they are, both to our bodies and our territories. The legal and public health battle is only just beginning in Europe, while in the United States, under Donald Trump’s administration, hard-won progress risks being dangerously rolled back. This documentary presents an extensive, large-scale European investigation spanning Europe and the United States. Supported by international partners, it sheds light on a worldwide scandal, unpacks the health, environmental, and political issues at stake, and gives a voice to experts, victims, whistleblowers, and decision-makers. Co-produced by 3 Freres Productions (France) and Dancing Dog Productions (Belgium), and directed by a Franco-Belgian team (Stenka Quillet and Quentin Noirfalisse), the film is supported by major broadcasters: ARTE (France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain), RTBF (Belgium), RTS (Switzerland), MKR (North Macedonia), and PTS (Taiwan).
