The project entails the construction of a 30MW ground-mounted solar power plant, located in Pâ, in the Mouhoun Loop region of Burkina Faso. Urbasolar, part of Swiss energy trader Axpo Holding AG, is implementing the project under a public-private partnership with the local government. The plant will be operated under a PPP contract by Urbasolar for 25 years before being handed over to the government. The total cost of the project is 21.5 billion CFA francs or $36.22 million. Funds were mobilised by Urbasolar via a financial pool including Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD) group, as well as the West African Development Bank (BOAD). The solar farm will produce 51.7 GWh of electricity once operational, which will be enough to meet the electricity consumption of around 150,000 homes per year.
