Description | Motorola International Development Corporation (MIDC), a subsidiary of Motorola Inc. of the United States, and SAW Telecom (Pvt.), a privately-held Pakistani company, have formed a joint venture to create Pakistan Mobile Communications Incorporated (PMCL), which will install and operate a nationwide cellular telephone network. MIGA issued MIDC a guarantee for $24.3 million against the risks of expropriation, currency transfer, and war and civil disturbance. The project is expected to service a significant segment of Pakistan's cellular telephone consumers by its fifth year of operation. Apart from enhancing the quality of service available to consumers, MIDC's entry into the market will make cellular telephone service available in previously inaccessible areas. The project is expected to create 341 new jobs by its tenth year of operation and will also provide extensive employee training in electronics, computer operation, and modern business practices. |
