Description

Description

The 82.5MW Paleisheuwel Solar PV power plant reached financial closure, as Enel began construction in March 2015. This BOO project worth of US$109.6 million would entail the development of solar pv power plant, located in Cederberg Municipality, Sandveld Region, Western Cape Province. It was a part of Window 3 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) by Department of Energy (DoE). The project company was Electra Capital Pty Ltd composed of Paleisheuwel Community Trust (10%), Lisinfo245 Investments (Pty) Ltd (30%, wholly owned by Royal Bafokeng Nation Development Trust) EGP SA BV(60%, wholly owned by EGP SPA). Once fully operational, this would generate more than 153 GWh per year, equivalent to the energy needs of around 48 thousand South African households, thereby avoiding the emission of more than 140 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. The energy generated by this new wind farm would be sold to the South African utility Eskom through a 20-year power supply agreement. http://www.nersa.org.za/Admin/Document/Editor/file/Consultations/Electricity/Presentations/Electra%20Capital%20(PTY)%20LTD.pdf http://africabusinesscommunities.com/news/enel-green-power-works-begin-on-three-new-plants-in-south-africa.html Cost of the project calculated based on the article below. 82.5(MW)/148.5(MW) x 197.3 (US$ million) = 109.6 (US$ million) Italian energy company TerniEnergia has signed a deal with an unnamed utility firm to develop two solar plants in South Africa for US$197.3mn solarpanel-AchimRaschka-wikimediaThe two plants will have a combined capacity of 148.5MW. The first 82.5MW plant would be installed in Paleisheuwel, Western Cape, while the second 66MW plant would be built at Tom Burke. According to the agreement, the Italian company’s subsidiary TerniaEnergy Projects will carry out all engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) activities as well as operations and maintenance (O&M). Panel and inverter supplies are also included in the contract. However, the deal is subject to approval by the European utility company and the South Af
