Panasonic Energy Company opened a new $84 billion electric vehicle battery factory in De Soto, Kansas. The factory produces lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and is one of the largest automotive battery plants in North America. It aims to meet the growing demand for EV batteries and increase U.S.-based production capacity to approximately 73 GWh. The facility spans nearly 300 acres and uses labor-saving production lines to achieve 20% higher productivity compared to its Nevada facility. It is projected to generate up to 4,000 direct jobs and approximately 8,000 total jobs, with collaborations for technological advancement and talent development with the University of Kansas.
