Parandur Greenfield Airport Project

The project involves the development of a greenfield airport at Parandur, Tamil Nadu, as Chennai's second airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a technical pre-feasibility study and shortlisted Parandur as the preferred site after evaluating multiple locations based on airspace availability, runway orientation, operational safety, land availability, connectivity, and future expansion potential. The site was selected due to better connectivity, fewer displaced families, fewer operational obstacles, adequate contiguous land, scope for future expansion, and no additional land required for navigational aids. Environmental assessments noted significant water bodies within the project area but did not deem them hindrances to construction.
