Description

Description

Nasa's Parker Solar Probe has captured an extraordinary phenomenon, a 'U-turn' of the solar wind, in the Sun's atmosphere, providing a new perspective on magnetic field behaviour. During its record-breaking close approach to the Sun in December 2024, the spacecraft observed material from coronal mass ejections (CMEs) not entirely escaping the Sun but making their way back, subtly reshaping the solar atmosphere. The probe, orbiting just 3.8 million miles (68 lakh kilometres) from the solar surface, utilised its Wide-Field Imager for Solar Probe (WISPR) to detail how this process functions.
