Description | Aligned with the objectives and the Climate and Energy thematic priority of the Global Gateway strategy, Stellenbosch University (SU) propose to coordinate a project focused on climate adaptation and resilience. The project, Partners Enhancing Resilience through African Centres of Excellence (PERI-ACE), aims to bring together core partners from HEIs with a long-standing history of collaboration and academic excellence from across Sub-Saharan Africa, with diverse skills and experience in addressing regional challenges through collaborative research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building. As an additional value to the project, scholars will be offered post-graduate short courses from the Africa Doctoral Academy hosted by Stellenbosch University. CORE PARTNERS The consortium will include six core institutions representing diverse regions of Africa: • Stellenbosch University (South Africa, Southern Africa): As the lead applicant • Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia, East Africa) • Cheikh Anta Diop University (Senegal, West Africa) • Ardhi University (Tanzania, Southern Africa) • 2iE (Burkina Faso, West Africa) • Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique, Southern Africa) ASSOCIATED PARTNERS To further enrich the program and ensure broader impact, the project will include the following associate partners: • Lund University (Sweden, European Union) • African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) • IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) (East Africa) • UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa SCHOLARSHIPS AND TRAINING The PERI-ACE Project aim to support at least 40 emerging scholars with a relative high focus on MSc Scholarships and Trainees, with the aim to increase employability. As part of the project, one request for special needs is budgeted for. 1. Master’s Students - 18 Participants (45%) 2. Doctoral Candidates - 6 Participants (15%) 3. Trainees - 10 Participants (25%) 4. Staff Members - 6 Participants (25%) |
