Description
Description | Cultural heritage communities and educational institutions have identified the need to develop knowledge of the intangible cultural heritage of folk music and new, digital and community-inclusive ways related to safeguarding practices of cultural heritage. Safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage is a precondition for the existence of communities. It also creates the basis for the socially and culturally sustainable development of the regions. The ICH North project supports the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage of folk music as well as its awareness among the younger generations and promotes cross-border cooperation related to the cultural heritage of folk music. The project actions are of preparatory type aiming at the main project planned to be implemented in the upcoming program period. In the main project, the folk music traditions and safeguarding practices within the project area will be made available to everyone using digital technologies. In addition, cross-border cultural cooperation will be strengthened. The objectives of the ICH North project are networking and knowledge exchange between cultural heritage communities and educational organizations as well as the identification of existing and missing materials that are needed for transferring folk music traditions and demonstrating safeguarding practices. Additionally, regional action plans to be implemented in the main project are sought through co-creation. The ICH North project utilizes co-creation between educational organizations and cultural heritage communities, which has not been tested before in the region. The target group of the project are communities and organizations engaged in safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage of folk music, especially young people in the project areas, as well as international students interested in cultural heritage. The ICH North project results in the Northern cooperation network for the intangible cultural Heritage of folk music, which shares best safeguarding practices, brings together existing materials for the intangible cultural heritage of folk music and prepares a report on missing materials that are needed for transferring and safeguarding of traditions. In addition, as a result of co-creation, the network creates regional plans for the main project. The added value of cross-border actions of the project arises from the knowledge exchange related to music tradition, safeguarding practices and development of digital material banks. In addition, ideas on the main project resulting from the co-creation engage the actors in the main project in the upcoming program period. In the long term, the ICH North project promotes awareness of the intangible cultural heritage. The project also helps regions to identify business and productization opportunities related to the intangible cultural heritage of folk music within cultural, tourism educational sectors. The lead partner of the project is Centria University of Applied Sciences and the projects partners are the Finnish Folk Music Institute and the Arctic University of Norway. Framnäs Folkhögskola, Norrbottens Spelmansförbund and Sámi musihkkaakademiija act as associate partners in the project. The associate partners participate in the project activities e.g. by sharing information of their own safeguarding practices, participating in the project¿s working group and mapping of material needed for transferring and safeguarding of traditions in |
