Description

Description

ADVANCE–EUiUA is a 3-year module in contemporary EU studies, open to MA and doctoral students from Ukrainian universities participating in the CEU Invisible University for Ukraine (IUFU) initiative, and to internationally diverse CEU students. IUFU is a certificate program supporting young Ukrainians, aimed to fill educational gaps and strengthen ties between Ukrainian educational institutions and transnational academic networks. To enable participation from Ukraine, courses will run online, combined with hybrid summer workshops in Budapest. The module aims to disseminate knowledge about lessons learned from past EU enlargements, relevant to current geopolitically induced enlargement and internal EU reforms. It also addresses political dynamics within EU institutions, member and partner states, and their relationships with accession countries, focusing on Ukraine. The module combines inter-/trans-disciplinary perspectives on these core issues, which are underrepresented in teaching and scientific activities in/on Ukraine. The module will create 3 new courses: “EU Enlargement: Lessons Learned from Pre- and Post-Experiences in Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans,” “Differentiated Modes of EU Non-Membership Cooperation: Lessons Learned for EU Differentiated Integration,” and “Negotiating Ukraine’s EU Accession.” These courses will incorporate up-to-date research, policy analyses, and innovative teaching techniques for effective online learning. The online courses will be accompanied by 3 summer workshops in Budapest, running in a hybrid mode, with public guest lectures by senior researchers in EU Studies and roundtables with EU policy practitioners and national negotiators. The workshops aim to advance students’ methodological, research communication, policy advising, and negotiating skills. Announcements and teaching materials will be made open access on the module webpage to ensure knowledge dissemination and the module’s long-lasting impact in the EU and Ukraine.
