Description

Description

The project aims to stabilize or prevent violent conflicts in particularly affected border regions of West Africa, with a regional focus on the Mali-Niger-Burkina Faso triangle and the border region of Burkina Faso with the coastal states. This is to be achieved through cross-border stabilization projects to promote local conflict resolution, resilience and social cohesion. Implementation is carried out by the PATRIP Foundation, which is primarily financed with funds from the Federal Foreign Office and has proven itself to be a fast and flexible instrument in the cross-border crisis context and was expanded in its regional engagement to West Africa in 2019. The preparation and implementation of the individual projects is carried out by pre-qualified international and national non-governmental organizations. Due to the open nature of the program, the spectrum of measures eligible for funding is not predetermined. This can include the following individual measures, among others - trust-building/mediation between communities, refugees, local administration and security forces; - promotion of participatory local governance and local conflict resolution mechanisms; - Strengthening government accountability (anti-corruption, etc.); - (Re)legitimizing local government structures by supporting the short-term rehabilitation of basic services (basic education, basic health, food security, water supply, etc.) - Promoting civic education; - Promoting religious competence/tolerance (mosque management, curriculum development, cooperation with traditional, moderate religious leaders, etc.); - Community-based programs to promote good parenting practices and prevent domestic violence; and - Preventing violence by creating short-term income and employment opportunities and skills training for at-risk youth/dropouts (ex-combatants).
