The local company Promociones y Desarrollos Hídricos, S.A. (PDHSA) was awarded contracts to build and operate two small hydro power plants located in Ixquisis, department of Huehuetenango. The power plants were named Hidroelectrica San Andres (10.65 MW) and Hidroelectrica Pojom II (20 MW). The 50-year contracts were awarded to the special purpose companies created to manage the contracts, GSM - Generadora San Mateo (Pojom II) and GSA - Generadora San Andres in December 2011 and September 2013, respectively. The investment figures were not available (the value included as project cost was approximated to the value of the debt raised by the sponsor). The IIC approved a US$ 6 million loan for GSA and a US$ 9 million loan to GSM in September 2013. In 2014, the CABEI approved a US$ 5 million syndicated loan for GSA and a US$ 20 million syndicated loan to GSM. The electricity generated by the power plant was set to be directed to the national grid.
