The end of the commemoration of the centenary of the First World War heralds a period of uncertainty for remembrance tourism. It is time to think about new ways to perpetuate the remembrance visitor circuits. The Association des jardins paysagers des Hauts-de-France (the Hauts-de-France landscape garden association) and the town of Zonnebeke have chosen to pool their landscape and commemorative skills. They invite French landscape gardeners to the Flemish territory (Zonnebeke) and Flemish landscape gardeners to the French territory (Le Quesnoy) to create peace gardens. They will combine reflection and method to create gardens celebrating the resilience of remembrance sites. Visitors will be able to discover the contemporary expression of the consequences of the Great War from a new angle. The gardens will serve to produce a cross-border tourism product that will depart from traditional commemorative initiatives, boost the attractiveness of the landscape heritage and appeal to a diverse audience.
