Description

The Peak Cluster project involves constructing a 125-mile long gas pipeline to capture waste carbon dioxide from cement and lime plants in the Peak District and transport it to the Irish Sea for storage. The pipeline will be three feet in diameter, buried at least four feet underground, and will require a 100-foot-wide corridor during construction. Above-ground infrastructure including a plant the size of seven football pitches with a 160-foot chimney will be built in Wirral. The project aims to capture more than 90% of carbon emissions from the sites and is vital for the UK to meet its Net Zero targets.
