Pecos West Energy Transmission Project

The Pecos West project is a proposed high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line connecting El Paso, Texas to southeastern New Mexico. Developed by Grid United, the project aims to link major parts of the U.S. electric grid, specifically the Western and Eastern interconnections, allowing electricity to move in both directions between regions. It is described as a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure investment that could bring jobs, tax revenue, and long-term economic benefits to communities along the route. The project is currently in the planning and development phase, with no final route approved yet. Construction will begin only after securing regulatory approvals and negotiating land agreements with property owners. The project is estimated to become operational in the mid-2030s if approved.
