Pecos West Energy Transmission Project

The Pecos West project is a proposed high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line connecting El Paso, Texas to southeastern New Mexico. Developed by Grid United, the project aims to link the Western and Eastern U.S. electric grid interconnections, allowing electricity to move bidirectionally between regions. It is described as a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure investment intended to strengthen energy reliability, expand power market access, and prevent outages during extreme weather. The project is currently in the planning and development phase, with no final route approved. Construction will begin after regulatory approvals and land agreements are secured, with landowner participation being voluntary. The project is estimated to become operational in the mid-2030s if approved.
