Pennoyer Creek Dam Removal and Daylighting Project

The Muskegon River Watershed Assembly is planning to re-route Pennoyer Creek out of the remains of the Rowe Manufacturing factory along the Muskegon River in Newaygo, Michigan. The project aims to remove the first dam in the Muskegon River watershed, daylight the creek to resemble a naturally flowing stream, reconnect it to the river, and enable fish passage for the first time in nearly 200 years. The project is in early design stages, with soil testing, engineering, and permitting yet to be done. The restoration vision also includes removing two upstream dams to improve habitat for migratory fish such as salmon and steelhead.
