Description

Description

The aim of the project “People in Time in European Literary Fiction for Children and Adults” is to support the circulation of European literature, to increase the diversity of contemporary European literature in Latvian translation, to develop the number of readership and reach new audiences in Europe and beyond by ensuring wide and easy access to the literary works in printed and digital format, to encourage cooperation with public libraries, and to contribute to the fight against climate change. To attain the objectives, the following actions are planned. To demonstrate diversity of European literature 8 literary fiction titles (short stories, children’s books, contemporary novels) written by outstanding European authors representing 6 European cultures will be published in Latvian translation to address a wide range of audience – children, youth and adults. In the focus of these books there are people – women and men, children, parents and elderly people, outcasts of the society, ill and disabled people. Moreover, these literary titles draw attention to such significant issues as inclusion, ageing, intergenerational relationship, gender balance, and climate change, thus providing ground for developing discussion about the themes of utmost significance. To develop and reach new audience different events with authors and translators will be organised online, thus, addressing people who due to some physical disability or other reasons cannot attend the events in person, as well as those Latvian readers who live outside Latvia and Europe. To contribute to the fight against climate change the Latvian translations of the books included in the project will be printed on a paper obtained from responsible sources. All titles will be published as a printed edition and an eBook, and the dust jackets in designed style will be printed for all books highlighting the unity of the project and contribution of Europe Union.
