Description
Description | Core problem Rapid growth rates in urban areas, however, pose enormous challenges for Benin's water supply. The rapid growth of the cities around Cotonou is leading to precarious supply situations, particularly in the outskirts of the city, such as in the Porto-Novo/Sèmè-Kpodji supply system. The undersupply of the population of Benin with hygienically safe drinking water is a key obstacle to development. Module objective The aim of the FC module is to ensure a sustainable, adequate supply of hygienically safe drinking water that is protected from wastewater and faeces in the project region, particularly the Porto-Novo/Sèmè-Kpodji supply area. Key outputs Phase III complements the above phases with investments in the eastern part of the greater Cotonou area. In particular, it finances the expansion of water treatment, storage and distribution capacities in the Porto-Novo/Sèmè-Kpodji supply area. Target group By consolidating and expanding the existing water supply networks, 70,000 predominantly socially disadvantaged residents will receive a new or improved drinking water connection in Sèmè-Kpodji. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - Clean water and sanitation - Sustainable cities and communities |
