Pernambuco Water Supply and Sanitation Concession Project

The project involves a 35-year concession to expand, modernise and operate water supply and sanitation infrastructure across 151 municipalities in the state of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil. Under the agreement, an ACCIONA-BRK consortium will be responsible for the distribution of treated water and the collection and treatment of wastewater for about seven million residents, investing roughly BRL 15.4 billion (US$2.8 billion) to improve service coverage and reliability. The initiative supports Pernambuco’s legal framework goals of nearly universal access to drinking water and sewerage by 2033, and includes targets for reducing water losses and addressing supply interruptions, while the state utility Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamento (Compesa) continues to produce and sell treated water to the concessionaire.
