Perseus Data Center Backup Power Plant

The Perseus data center in Pittsburg, California, is developing a 92-MW diesel-fired backup power plant that could use renewable diesel from vegetable oil or other biomass feedstock. The data center is estimated to cost more than $800 million and is planned to deliver its first 99 MW of capacity in 2027. The backup system includes 37 diesel-fired generators from Cummins, with a plan to use renewable diesel or ultralow-sulfur diesel if renewable diesel is unavailable. The project has received an exemption from the California Energy Commission and is part of a larger 76-acre campus planned for up to 500 MW of data center capacity.
