Description

Perth Stadium, also known as Optus Stadium, is hosting its first Ashes Test cricket match. The stadium was developed as a replacement for the Western Australian Cricket Association Ground (WACA) and opened in 2018 at a cost of A$820 million. The project involved creating drop-in cricket pitches that replicate the unique pace and bounce characteristics of the WACA pitch. These pitches are grown in a nearby nursery and transported into the stadium using a 40-tonne transporter. The stadium also underwent modifications to accommodate cricket, including removing seats to recreate grass banking for spectators. The WACA is undergoing a separate redevelopment to become a community facility with a 10,000 capacity and additional amenities.
