Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe works to eliminate the dependency on synthetic pesticides. PAN Europe is the European branch of PAN International, active in 60 countries worldwide with five autonomous regional centres: Europe, North America, South America, Asia-Pacific and Africa. Together we work to minimise the negative effects of hazardous pesticides and to replace their use with ecologically sound and socially just alternatives. PAN Europe brings together about 50 member organisations among consumer, public health and environmental organisations, trades unions, women's groups and farmer associations from 28 countries of which 23 are in the European Union: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Ukraine. PAN Europe was founded in 1987. PAN Europe's mission is to eliminate dependency on chemical pesticides and to support safe sustainable pest control methods. Pesticide (including biocides) reduction is a prerequisite for improvements of public and workers health, protection of the environment, and its strict implementation is in line with the precautionary principle. PAN Europe’s vision is of a synthetic pesticide-free Europe in which agriculture is reconciled with the environment and works with nature, rather than against it. Pesticides are replaced by ecological alternatives in rural and urban areas, and people as well as the environment are truly protected from their harmful effects.
