Description

Description

The scope of work for the Project includes the construction of a new community ice rink to replace the existing rink which is past its useful life, a lobby area, and dressing rooms. The lobby area will include a concession, which at present, is anticipated to be owned by the Ultimate Recipient. There is the possibility that it will be leased to a local Indigenous entrepreneur, however, it is expected that the revenue will remain within the community. The Project will improve the mental and physical well-being of the youth in the small community of Southend (a population of approximately 1,000 people) through sport and recreational activities. The facility will serve as a rink in the winter and a multi-purpose facility in the summer when the ice is removed. It will also be used for cultural activities, pow wows, meetings, and other sports and recreational activities.
