Description | Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) plans scheduled power shutoffs in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara counties in the Bay Area due to anticipated high winds and fire risk. The proactive power outages, known as public safety power shutoffs (PSPS), aim to prevent catastrophic wildfires by turning off power in targeted areas when extreme weather threatens the electric grid. PG&E announced that 647 customers in Alameda County, 276 in Contra Costa County, and 48 in Santa Clara County could be affected from Thursday through the weekend. PG&E will provide centers with power and air conditioning for affected customers at Costco in Livermore and Balfour-Guthrie Park in southern Brentwood. |
