Description | Vulcan Energy Resources Ltd has broken ground on the first phase of its major geothermal and lithium extraction plant (G-LEP) in the Upper Rhine Valley, Germany. The project targets a production capacity of 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate annually, sufficient for around 500,000 electric vehicle batteries per year. It will also deliver 275 GWh of renewable power and 560 GWh of heat annually for local consumers over an estimated 30-year project life. Lithium offtake for the first decade has been fully contracted with European-focused off-takers. Construction is expected to take 2.5 years. |
