The Philippine government, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is committed to increasing the utilization of renewable energy in the country's energy mix, targeting an additional 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The initiative includes addressing delays in 'sleeping' renewable energy projects caused by land acquisition issues, system impact study delays, bureaucratic hurdles, lack of developer commitment, and financial viability challenges. The government also aims to complete nearly 200 power plants, including solar and natural gas, to supply power to millions of homes and businesses. Efforts include expediting approvals for the Net Metering Program to encourage rooftop solar installations and promoting Battery Energy Storage Systems to optimize intermittent renewable resources.
