Phipps Land Annexation for Development near Lake Jackson

planned

Jeffrey Phipps, a wealthy landowner, is seeking voluntary city annexation for his 1,742 acres of land near Lake Jackson, east of Carr Lake and Mallard Pond, which are part of the Lake Jackson Aquatic Preserve. The annexation request aims to enable development on this environmentally sensitive area, following previous unsuccessful attempts to amend the Comprehensive Plan to allow more intensive development. The city of Tallahassee will review the petition, notify the county, and hold public hearings before voting on the annexation request. The proposal has sparked environmental concerns and opposition from citizens and environmental groups.
