Description | A major collaboration involving 14 research institutions from Japan, the U.S., and Europe has been launched to domesticate "Physical AI"—technology that controls robots and vehicles in the real world. Centered around Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), the project includes participation from AI authority Yoshua Bengio and a team of over 200 researchers. The initiative focuses on foundational technologies integrating diverse information such as visual and tactile data. The research outcomes will be utilized for AI development by "Noetra," a new company funded by SoftBank and other Japanese firms, aiming for practical application in Japan's manufacturing sector. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is providing financial support to seize the lead in Physical AI. |
