Description | The Third Pakistan Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation (PICIC) Limited Project will provide a loan of $15 million to meet the foreign exchange credit demands of PICIC's customers within the Pakistan industrial community for the next two years and to achieve partially the lending goals set for PICIC by the government under the Second Five-Year Plan. This loan will be the third Bank loan to PICIC. PICIC was established to assist in the creation, expansion, and modernization of private industrial enterprises, to encourage private local and foreign capital participation in their financing, and to assist generally in the creation of a securities market. PICIC enjoys the support of the government and tangible express thereof, and yet it must satisfy the government's development pace. As a result, PICIC has acquired a large portfolio. Many of these projects have been for balancing and modernizing equipment or for new plants for entrepreneurs who have required foreign currencies rather than investment credit. PICIC's financial position is good, its earnings potential fairly high, and its projected reserves beginning to provide a margin against losses. |
