Description | The Independent Energy System Operator (IESO) plans to build one or two new natural gas power plants in rural parts of Pictou County, Nova Scotia. These fast-acting power generators are intended to replace retiring coal-fired power plants by 2030 and provide backup power to complement intermittent wind and solar energy sources. The project includes preliminary work such as environmental assessment applications and land acquisition, with plans to open bids for construction and operation contracts in the new year. Each plant is expected to create 100-125 construction jobs and 10-15 operational jobs. |
