The project consists of the construction of temporary accommodation entirely planned to benefit Indigenous people, specifically vulnerable populations living on reserve. It aims to: • Allow members to remain in the community, rather than being displaced by the justice system. • Allow families to have access to their family members who may be involved in the justice system. • Provide temporary accommodation to address domestic violence issues due to severe over-crowding of houses which connects to physical and physiological well-being. The structure of the building is being researched, designed and constructed in partnership with Natural Resources Canada. The facility will comprise of a sleeping module, which will house approximately 16 people using double occupancy per room, and a gathering module, which will consist of a community kitchen, public bathrooms, office space, healing rooms, a common gathering area and conference rooms. The exterior structures will include a deck, ramp and canopy. The cultural gathering space (sub-structure) will provide common space to provide services to accused individuals and their families. The services will be provided by qualified and accredited mental health workers, family councilors, Elders, legal workers, and traditional healers.
