Description

Australian miner Fortescue Ltd (ASX:FMG) will invest USD 680 million to expand renewable energy infrastructure in Pilbara, Western Australia, to serve other industries in the region, including data centres. The investment will fund the 200-MW Pilbara Green Energy Project, which will complement Fortescue's existing gigawatt-scale scheme to power its own operations with 100% renewables and reach zero greenhouse gas emissions. The project includes an integrated, off-grid system combining renewable generation with large-scale battery storage and firming capacity, with potential to expand to multi-gigawatt scale after 2030. It is expected to be finalized by 2028.
