With this project, the Social Partners of the European sea fishing sector want to strengthen the social dimension of fisheries, aiming to improve working conditions, safety, and job attractiveness. The project focuses on three pillars: (1) developing health and safety guidelines under ILO Convention C188, (2) researching barriers to the sector’s attractiveness, and (3) Drafting a proposal for an EU Directive on control and enforcement of ILO C188. The project supports EU goals on decent work, gender equality, youth employment, and aligns with strategies like the EU Blue Economy Strategy, Pact for Skills, and the Regulation on Forced Labour. The initiative contributes to ethical, sustainable, and competitive fisheries, reinforcing the EU’s global leadership in ocean governance.
