Description

Description

The Pillur Scheme 3 is a major drinking water project in Coimbatore, executed jointly by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board and the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). It aims to supply 178.30 million litres per day (MLD) of water to the expanded areas of the city, drawing water from the Bhavani Barrage-1 downstream of the Pillur Dam. The project includes an extensive infrastructure network of wells, tunnels, pipelines, treatment plants, and overhead tanks. However, during monsoon season, when the Pillur Dam reaches full capacity, the dam's shutters are opened to release surplus water, causing disruptions in water supply as water cannot be drawn from the barrage during this time. The TWAD Board is studying the feasibility of laying a dedicated pipeline inside the barrage to allow water drawing even during surplus water release periods.
