Pilot survey of LUV activity on the scope of Austrian businesses

There is an increasing interest and demand for information about the use of light utility vehicles (LUV) in Austria. Data on Austrian LUV transport would not only round up the entire picture of transport caused by the Austrian business sector, but would also support the development of harmonized transport statistics at a European level. Main goal of this project is the implementation of a pilot data collection on LUV activity caused by Austrian businesses following the methodology discussed and developed in the related Task Force, while simultaneously keeping the respondent burden as low as possible. For the data collection, stratified samples of LUVs registered by Austrian businesses will be generated by processing and combining data from the Statistical Business Register (SBR) with data from the motor vehicle stock transmitted by the Association of Austrian Insurance Companies (VVO). The stratified sampling should improve the efficiency by reducing the sampling error. It allows covering subpopulations across several fields such as regional and vehicle characteristics. The reference year for the collection of LUV data will be 2024. Therefore, the sample will be subdivided in parts, each covering a different time period of the year 2024. The reporting times will be spread evenly across the whole year to reduce seasonal biases of the results. Furthermore, the quality and use of odometer data for this project shall be analysed. At the moment, Statistics Austria does not have access to odometer data. This will be changed during the proposed project.
