Description
Description | The PEACH Apartments is a 10-unit affordable apartment complex in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, primarily built for tenants earning 30% of area median income. The project faced a nearly one-year delay due to issues with electric metering and rooftop solar panel installation. The developer, EMPOWERment Inc., initially installed a single meter for the entire complex to accommodate solar panels, but state law required individual meters for each unit. After a ruling in favor of Duke Power, the developer raised additional funds to install single-unit meters. The $3.8 million project is debt free and funded mostly by the federal government, the Town of Chapel Hill, and donors. The apartments offer affordable rents significantly below the local average. |
