Description | The Pinnapuram Integrated Renewable Energy Project (IREP) is a gigawatt-scale hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district. It combines 4,000 MW solar power, 1,000 MW wind power, and 1,680 MW pumped-storage hydropower with two artificial lakes acting as reservoirs. The project stores excess solar and wind energy by pumping water to an upper reservoir and releases it through turbines to supply power for up to nine hours continuously. It was built and commissioned in three years and is the first 100% Make-in-India pumped storage project with no imported equipment. |
