Description

Description

The Placemaking for Citizen-led Missions in SE Europe (PLACE) project aims to: 1. Use placemaking events and transnational exchanges to activate deep citizen co-creation processes in a cluster of communities in SE Europe 2. Help to build a movement of citizen-led community missions in SE European communities that respond to EU policy priorities such as the Green Deal, Climate Neutral Cities Mission and new EU Bauhaus. The specific project objectives will be to: 1. Develop the capacity of community-leaders and groups of local citizens to use placemaking processes to develop civic imagination and create impactful and practical community projects and target better social, climate and ecological outcomes. 2. Demonstrate how placemaking processes can help citizens to make their voices heard and publicly exchange their views on how to put key areas of EU sustainable development and climate policy into meaningful local action. 3. Create space for learning and exchange between citizens and civic organisations on placemaking approaches, lessons learned and relevant policy recommendations that result. We will focus local work on 9 placemaking events in six communities in SE Europe: in Croatia (Križevci and Cres/Lošinj), Slovenia (Nova Gorica and Maribor), and Sicily, Italy (Madonie and Favara). From the local events we will build out to events that focus on trans-national sharing and exchange of learnings and ideas for citizen-led placemaking and missions. This work will also be supported with focussed capacity development events for citizens and civil society organisations – both at a transnational and national level. Building on this pilot project, the partners plan to sustain the results through expanded work on community placemaking in SE Europe through the Thriving Communities initiative and Placemaking Europe network.
