Description

Description

The project involves the renovation of the public lighting infrastructure on the 2,700 km road network of Wallonia, Belgium. The project includes the installation of LED lighting, introducing innovations for significant energy savings and enhanced road safety. LED lights provide cold light, better suited to human vision, improving driving comfort. Doppler and Bluetooth sensors are deployed for instant vehicle and pedestrian detection, as well as for monitoring traffic flow. The road network will be equipped with 2,500 cameras and sensors to determine road occupancy. This project embraces sustainable development by replacing sodium bulbs with energy-efficient LEDs. This transition, coupled with adaptive lighting based on traffic conditions, will result in 76% energy savings and a reduction of 166,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The project also prioritizes the reduction of light pollution and the preservation of natural areas and biodiversity, particularly in Natura 2000 zones.
