PLS Mid-Stream Demonstration Plant

PLS is commissioning its Mid-Stream Demonstration Plant to test whether more value can be captured at the resource level by moving further along the lithium value chain. The plant is designed to process approximately 27,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate per annum, producing around 3,000 tonnes of lithium phosphate using electric flash calcination technology at its Pilgangoora operation. The project is backed by up to $38.1 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and supported by an offtake agreement with China-based cathode producer Ningbo Ronbay New Energy Technology. The project also aims to reduce carbon intensity when powered by renewable energy. PLS has acquired full ownership and operational control of the project, retaining Calix Limited as a technology partner.
