Description

Description

There is currently a fragmentation of standards used to express clinical concepts. This makes semantic interoperability of health data difficult. Implementation and use of SNOMED CT in Poland will increase semantic interoperability, which is crucial for further development of e-health in Poland, including, among others, implementation of artificial intelligence solutions in healthcare and implementation of cross-border services. Poland has already successfully implemented such e-services as e-prescription, e-referral, Patient's Internet Account (an application designed for patients where they can deal with health-related matters), gabinet.gov.pl application (an application designed for doctors which allows them to issue e-prescriptions and referrals), indexing of medical events and exchange of electronic medical records. AI deployment is the next step in eHealth implementation, for which semantic interoperability is needed. Its implementation will increase the decision support capabilities of medical professionals in real time, enable suggesting clinical decisions based on expert knowledge bases, including prevention and early prediction of patient's health, which will translate into the quality of medical services provided and more effective management of the healthcare system. In order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to have access to the fullest possible data, and the data collected should also be used secondarily for tasks related to creating health policy, epidemiology, and conducting research.
