Description
Description | Poland will build its first nuclear power plant at Lubiatowo-Kopalino on the Baltic coast. The plant will consist of three reactors using AP1000 technology supplied by Westinghouse. Construction will be carried out by a consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel. The project aims to power 12 million households, provide 50,000 jobs during construction, and play a central role in Poland's strategy to reduce emissions and reliance on coal. The EU has approved public funding, unlocking a financing package worth about 60 billion zloty (approximately 14.2 billion), covering around 30% of the project cost. The total capital cost is expected to be around 42 billion. Construction is planned to start with pouring the first nuclear concrete in 2028, and the first reactor is expected to begin commercial operation in 2036. |
