The Polar Art (PArt) Project places arts in the centre, and wishes to translate Northern European literary works which examine what living the life of an artist entails, and how the process of artistic creation unfolds. Polar Publishing is dedicated to the dissemination of Northern European culture in Hungary, therefore the PArt Project intends to translate ten Scandinavian works of art from six different languages into Hungarian, and publish them both in printed and e-book format. We want to produce 1000 hard cover copies of each title. Since several award-winning novels have been selected for publication, the high literary value of the Project is guaranteed. While choosing the authors and the translators we decided to prioritize women in order to put the equal empowerment policy of the Creative Europe Programme into practice. The themes of the novels’ present artists, the physical and mental joys and difficulties of the creative process, and the impact of art on individuals, families and societies. Real and fictitious characters in their prime and in their decline represent various branches of art: dance, music, poetry and painting. Nature plays a crucial role in the unfolding of the stories, and we have also committed ourselves to the protection of the environment by the choice of eco-friendly paper we use for printing. By the publication of the e-book version large Hungarian communities who live in the neighbouring countries, or others who work abroad will also be addressed. The very special, captivating atmosphere of Northern literature will not only bring numerous cultural benefits to its readers, but it will also have an impact on public opinion by presenting more open and more inclusive social models through the universal theme of art.
