Polar Night Energy Sand Battery Project in Latvia

Polar Night Energy, a Finnish company, is developing sand battery technology to serve communities with renewable energy and district heating systems. The company has developed two commercial sand batteries in Finland and is currently developing a third near Vääksy, Finland, as well as its first international project in Latvia. The sand battery stores excess renewable electricity as heat in sand, which can be used for district heating or industrial processes. The technology offers long-duration heat storage and a low environmental footprint.
