Information Water Resources-AP has come up with Polavaram Irrigation Project with a ticket size of 55548.87 INR Crores. This project in Irrigation sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Polavaram Project is a multi-purpose project which has been accorded National Project status by the Union Government. This project under construction across the Godavari River is located in West Godavari and East Godavari Districts in Andhra Pradesh state and its reservoir spreads in parts of Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha States also. It envisaged to create an irrigation potential of 7.20 lakh Acres for the up land areas of East Godavari & Visakhapatnam Districts under left main canal and West Godavari &Krishna Districts under Right main canal. Main Components of Project and Benefits include - i] 2454 m of Earth cum Rock fill dam/concrete dam in three gaps, ii] 1,118.40 m long spillway for discharging probable maximum flood of 1,41,535 cumec, iii]181.999 km long Left Main Canal to irrigate 4 lakh acres [1,61,855 ha], iv]178.81 km long Right Main Canal to irrigate 3.2 lakh acres [1,29,500 ha] and v] 960 MW [12x80 MW] Power House on left flank with necessary tunnels for penstocks and tail race channel back to river.
