Description | The Polavaram Irrigation Project is a large multipurpose irrigation initiative in Polavaram district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It aims to provide water for irrigation, drinking, and power generation by utilizing the waters of the Godavari River. The project includes the construction of the Polavaram Dam, which will be among the largest dams in India and feature the world's largest flood discharge spillway. It is India's first large river-linking project through gravity, connecting the Godavari and Krishna Rivers. The project will generate 960 MW of hydroelectric power and support irrigation of extensive agricultural areas while reducing flood impact in the Godavari Delta. |
