Jean Monnet Chair on Policymaking in the EU (PolEU) aims to cover and deepen teaching and research in the field of European integration studies at the University of Ljubljana–Faculty of Social Sciences (UL–FSS). In this respect the project aims to strengthen the curricula covering EU policymaking and policy studies at the re-accredited BA-level Political Science study programme and at the newly established MA-level European Studies and Political Science programmes. With ambition to deepen teaching of European Union studies, an innovative teaching method - simulation of EU policymaking - will be introduced. Different models of simulations of EU policymaking will be conducted: simulations of decision-making in Council of the EU, in the European Parliament and simulations of decision-making in the EU from the citizens’ perspective. Non-social sciences students interested in European Union will be included in project activities by attending lectures of practitioners – public officials working in the EU institutions, by attending lectures of young researchers in new areas of EU policymaking, and by participating in UL-FSS Jean Monnet Chair Award for best student work on EU-related topic. To define the needs in European Union studies, structural dialogue between academics, experts, policy-makers and representatives of civil society in the field of EU policymaking and policy studies will be established as part of the PolEU project. To support the scope of European Union studies with the link to existing EU policies, various study materials with open access will be prepared. Professor Damjan Lajh as a proposed chair holder strives to facilitate access to study and materials on EU policymaking, in an effort to achieve both academic and research excellence. The core teaching and research revolves around the theme of policymaking process and policy studies in the EU.
